Streetlight Manifesto
Listened to the album Everything Goes Numb by Streetlight Manifesto? it was their first album, and quite amazing if you like anything to do with ska/rock/alternative-ness. The vocalist, Thomas Kalnoky has an urgent and sort of rough sound, that is strangely appealing. the lyrics are deep and weird at times, but original, as with the intro to the song song Point/Counterpoint:
"I've got a gun in my hand but that gun won't cock
My finger's on the trigger but that trigger seems locked
I can't stop staring at the tick-tock clock
And even if I could I would never give up
With a vest on my chest, a bullet in my lung
I can't believe I'm dying with my song unsung
And if and when I die won't you bury me alone?
Because I'll never get to heaven if I'm singing this song"
This is the part our marching band sings on the bus on the way to and from band competitions. very loudly and obnoxiously. Band kids were never meant to sing. Ever. Like we care :P
Anyways, the album comprises of upbeat songs with amazing harmonies, saxophones, trombones, trumpets, a guitar, bass, and drums. A great listen for people who appreciate band instruments and dance-y music and road trips. And even if you read this and think "what the hell? a SKA band?", they're not what you expect, promise. I don't exactly like ska... at all... but Streetlight Manifesto is definitely something else, and the first album sets high expectations for the rest of their music (which I have not had the chance to listen to yet...)
